The world of television has lost a true legend. Roger E. Mosley, best known for his iconic role on the action crime series "Magnum, P.I.," has passed away at the age of 83. His death comes as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident in Lynwood, California. Mosley's daughter, Ch-a Mosley, confirmed the news to USA TODAY.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mosley made a significant impact on the entertainment industry throughout his career. From his television debut on the crime drama "Longstreet" in 1971 to his roles in various films in the '70s, including "Hit Man," "The Mack," and "McQ," Mosley's talent and versatility shone through. However, he truly captured the hearts of audiences when he took on the role of helicopter pilot Theodore "TC" Calvin in "Magnum, P.I." in 1980.

Mosley's portrayal of TC on "Magnum, P.I." resonated deeply, particularly within the Black community. In a 1982 interview with Ebony magazine, Mosley emphasized the importance of his character's representation, stating, "They keep writing for me to smoke and drink, but I won’t do it. I never get high, smoke, or drink on the show or in real life. That’s not what I want Black kids to see."

The news of Mosley's passing has triggered an outpouring of heartfelt tributes from fans and colleagues alike. Philip Michaels, an editor, took to Twitter to express his admiration, stating, "So much of my Magnum PI enjoyment comes from Roger E. Mosley, the unsung comic hero of many a scene on that show." Writer and director Tina Andrews described it as a "sad day," honoring Mosley's talent and the joy he brought to those around him.
