Now that Avatar: The Way of Water has arrived on Disney+, fans are already buzzing with anticipation for the next installment, Avatar 3. Director James Cameron has dedicated years to building the world of Pandora, and with the success of Avatar 2, the excitement for Avatar 3 is at an all-time high. In this article, we'll cover everything we know so far about the release date, plot, and cast of Avatar 3.

Release Date: When Can We Expect It?

Originally, Avatar 3 was slated for release on December 20, 2024. However, the release date was later pushed back to December 19, 2025, along with the other two sequels. Directed by James Cameron himself, Avatar 3 will be followed by Avatar 4 in 2029 and Avatar 5 in 2031, assuming there are no further changes to the schedule.

The majority of Avatar 3 has already been shot alongside Avatar: The Way of Water, but there is still some final work to be done. According to star Zoe Saldaña, they are currently about 70% done with the movie and will be returning to finish it up in the summer of 2024. Previous statements from James Cameron and producer Jon Landau suggested that the filming was nearly complete, but Saldaña's estimate differs slightly. Regardless, fans can expect an epic continuation of the Avatar saga.

Plot: What Can We Expect?

James Cameron has already revealed that Avatar 3 will introduce a whole new group of Pandora's Na'vi known as the "Ash People," who possess a unique connection to the element of fire. In a teaser released by producer Jon Landau, an emotional moment between Jake Sully and an unknown Na'vi was featured, hinting at the deep storytelling to come.

Cameron has promised that Avatar 3 will offer a different perspective compared to the previous films. While the first two movies showcased positive examples of the Na'vi and negative examples of humans, this installment will "do the opposite." Fans can expect to meet more complex and potentially nefarious Na'vi characters, as well as a more nuanced portrayal of humanity.

Additionally, the film's antagonist, a new villain from Pandora, is said to present a more personal threat compared to the faceless military machine depicted in the previous movies. A massive battle scene at the RDA home base of Bridgehead has also been teased, promising an action-packed climax that will leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

What Will It Be Called?

While the first movie was simply titled Avatar and the second is known as The Way of Water, the official title of Avatar 3 has yet to be announced. Back in 2018, BBC News reported that it would be called Avatar: The Seed Bearer, along with two more sequels titled The Tulkun Rider and The Quest for Eywa. However, James Cameron cautioned that these leaked titles were still under consideration and not final decisions.

At this time, Disney and James Cameron have not revealed the official title for Avatar 3. While The Seed Bearer remains a possibility, it's uncertain whether it will be the final choice. Fans will have to wait for further updates to learn the official title of the third installment in this groundbreaking franchise.

Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water are currently available for streaming on Disney+, allowing fans to immerse themselves in the world of Pandora while eagerly awaiting the release of Avatar 3.
