However, the primary shooting location for The Wheel of Time Season 1 was the magnificent city of Prague in the Czech Republic. The heart of the production was Jordan Studios, a purpose-built and expansive facility that allowed the creative team to bring their ambitious vision to life.
Inside Jordan Studios
Jordan Studios in Prague played a vital role in the production of The Wheel of Time. Unlike most studios that cater to multiple projects, Jordan Studios was exclusively dedicated to this extraordinary series. The decision to establish a bespoke studio was born out of necessity when the availability of studio space in Central and Eastern Europe proved scarce.
David Brown, the series producer, explained in an interview with GQ how the team faced challenges in securing studio space: "[I] spoke to friends in Budapest who'd worked there, and they just said, 'You won't get in.'" Undeterred, the team set their sights on Prague and took on the ambitious task of building their own studio.
The sprawling 350,000 square feet facility at Jordan Studios includes not only soundstages but also specialized areas such as a visual effects house, a stunt gym, archery targets, a rock climbing wall, an armourer/jeweller, a 3D printer, a costume department, individual offices for writers, and much more. This dedicated space allowed the creative team to fully immerse themselves in the world of The Wheel of Time.
It's worth noting that Jordan Studios were named in honor of Robert Jordan, the esteemed author of The Wheel of Time novel series, whose legacy continues to captivate audiences.
The Exciting Adventures of Season 2
For the highly anticipated second season of The Wheel of Time, the production journey returned to Prague and Jordan Studios. Filming took place from 2021 into early this year, as the captivating story continues to unfold.
In addition to Prague, Season 2 also took the crew to thrilling new locations. The team explored the diverse landscapes of Morocco, capturing the essence of CLA Studios, Marrakech, and Dakhla. Italy's enchanting Puglia region served as yet another backdrop, with scenes filmed in Calanchi Di Aliano and Ginosa.
But the adventure doesn't end there. Reports suggest that filming has also returned to the breathtaking Canary Islands, adding an extra layer of grandeur to the second season.
